Fire Athletics mourns the loss of former SEU baseball player Torrence Sumerlin.

He passed away Friday morning as the result of a shooting in his native Chicago.

During the 2018 season, Sumerlin appeared in 37 games and helped the Fire win the NAIA World Series for the first time in program history.

“This one is extremely hard to chest for all of us. It’s painful to lose a family member; Torrence was the heartbeat of the best team/family in SEU baseball history,” said SEU baseball coach Adrian Dinkel. “He left a lasting impact on all of our hearts. We all loved him and we’re going to miss him. I truly believe the Lord called on Torrence to lead his team. Love you, T.”

Our prayers are with Torrence’s friends, family, and former teammates during this difficult time.
