<p><strong>ATLANTA, Ga.</strong> – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.</p>
<h4><strong>Women’s Basketball</strong></h4>
<p><strong>PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bria Gibbs, Savannah State</strong><br />
<strong>Center  |  Junior  |  Greensboro, N.C.</strong></p>
<p>Bria Gibbs had another fantastic week, scoring double figures in two wins for Savannah State. Against Spring Hill, Gibbs recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds and 17 points. Against Fort Valley State on Saturday, Gibbs scored 13 points. The Lady Tigers lead the SIAC at 13-0, 7-0 and are one of three undefeated teams in the nation.</p>
<p><strong>NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– </strong>Ta&#8217;Quashia Lumpkin, Savannah State<br />
Forward  |  Freshman  |  Beaufort, S.C.</p>
<p>In her first season playing for Savannah State Ta&#8217;Quasia Lampkin is quickly becoming key to their victories. In a win against Fort Valley State, Lampkin recorded her first double-double with a season-high 22 points and 16 rebounds. She also led in steals with 7. She leads the team in steals this season with 36 and is second on the team in blocks with 12. The Lady Tigers lead the SIAC at 13-0, 7-0 and are one of three undefeated teams in the nation.</p>
<h4><strong>Men’s Basketball</strong></h4>
<p><strong>PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Deshawn Millington, Tuskegee</strong><br />
<strong>Guard |  Senior   |  Brooklyn, N.Y.</strong></p>
<p>In two games last week, Tuskegee’s Deshawn Millington led the Golden Tigers to two wins over Edward Waters and Lane. Millington, a senior from Brooklyn, N.Y., had a season-high 23 points against Edward Waters while adding four assists, four steals, and two rebounds. Against Lane, Millington led with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal.</p>
<p><strong>NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– </strong>Devin Booker, Tuskegee<br />
Guard   |  Junior  |  Chicago, Ill.</p>
<p>Booker is the leading scorer for the Golden Tigers in two contests this week.</p>
<p>Against Edward Waters, Booker posted five points and three rebounds. Against Lane, the junior guard collected 16 points and six rebounds. He is averaging 12.9 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game in an average of 30.8 minutes per contest with 11 starts in 12 games played.</p>

<p><em>SIAC Communications<br>Tyler Williams</em></p>



<p><strong>ATLANTA</strong> – Ajanae Cressey (Central State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Airyonna Weaver (Spring Hill) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Wednesday.</p>



<p>Keyara Brooks (Kentucky State) was also tabbed Setter of the Week alongside Shadiya Wilson (Miles) who earned Newcomer of the Week.</p>



<p><strong>OFFENSIVE –&nbsp;</strong>Ajanae Cressey, Freshman, Outside Hitter, Central State</p>



<p>Central State University freshman Ajanae Cressey led the Marauder offense in the opening weekend of competition. In CSU&#8217;s 3-0 win over Kentucky State in a non-conference match on Friday, Cressey led the team with 10 kills. In the following match against Maryville, Cressey recorded 15 kills. In Saturday&#8217;s match against MEC favorite West Virginia State, she led the team with 9 kills. Cressey finished the weekend with a combined 34 kills and 36.5 points.</p>



<p><strong>DEFENSIVE –&nbsp;</strong>Airyonna Weaver, Freshman, Middle Blocker, Spring Hill</p>



<p>As a true freshman, Weaver had 12 blocks (1-11) in four matches at the UWF Springhill Suites Invitational in Pensacola against teams all receiving votes in the DII AVCA Top 25. She also added 7 digs, 3 receptions, and 14 kills to her totals.</p>



<p><strong>SETTER –&nbsp;</strong>Keyara Brooks, Freshman, Setter, Kentucky State</p>



<p>During KSU’s Invitational, Brooks led her team in assists (64) and added 16 kills to close out the invitational with a five-set win over Maryville, 3-2.</p>



<p><strong>NEWCOMER –&nbsp;</strong>Shadiya Wilson, Freshman, Middle Blocker, Miles</p>



<p>In her first collegiate action, Wilson hit .226 over 14 games in four matches. She added 26 digs, three service aces, four assists, and three blocks (one solo). Her best match was against Rust, where she had 17 kills, 13 digs, two service&nbsp;aces and one block.</p>

<p><strong>ATLANTA</strong>  &#8211; Middle blocker Kassandra Fairly of Spring Hill collected her second Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Preseason Offensive Player of the Year honor alongside with teammate, Taylor Fontenelle, who was selected as Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, announced Thursday by the league office.<br> <br>All votes are submitted by SIAC head volleyball coaches and sports information directors.<br> <br><strong>Preseason Offensive Player of the Year</strong><br><strong>Kassandra Fairly, Middle Blocker</strong><br><strong>Spring Hill College</strong><br> <br>Fairly, a junior middle blocker, was chosen as this years’ Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after maintaining a career .385 hitting percentage averaging 3.25 kills per set and 0.62 blocks per set. In 2019, she led the Badgers in kills (401) and blocks (77). The Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. native has amassed several awards including being a three-time member SIAC Commissioner&#8217;s All-Academic Team, two-time all-conference first team selection, two-time SHC Female Athlete of the Year, 2018 SIAC Player of Year and SIAC Tournament MVP, 2019 D2CCA All-South Region Second Team, 2019 AVCA All-South Region First Team, and 2019 SIAC Freshman of the Year.<br> <br><strong>Preseason Defensive Player of the Year</strong><br><strong>Taylor Fontenelle, Libero/Defensive Specialist</strong><br><strong>Spring Hill College</strong><br> </p>



<p>Fontenelle, a Spanish Fort, Ala. native, has been named this years’ Preseason Defensive Player of the Year after a dynamic first season with the Badgers where she collected 189 digs and led the Badgers in service aces (49). <p><em>SIAC Communications<br>Tyler Williams</em></p>



<p><strong>ATLANTA  –</strong>&nbsp;A record high, 1,454 student-athletes, was named to the 2020-21 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Commissioner&#8217;s All-Academic Team for maintaining at least a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average throughout the 2020-21 academic year.<br>&nbsp;<br>Student-athletes with a 3.2 or higher were considered for all-academic team honors. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions usually involved in that sport.</p>



<p>Fifty-five students from 11 institutions recorded a 4.0 grade point average.</p>



<p>Benedict College led all institutions in this year’s All-Academic Honors by capturing five all-academic team awards in football, women’s cross country, women’s tennis, women’s track and field, and softball.</p>



<p>Miles College, Morehouse College, Kentucky State University, and Spring Hill College each captured two team awards.</p>
