MARIETTA, Ga. – The Fire volleyball team won both of their matches Friday at the Life Running Eagle Classic, defeating Middle Georgia State, 3-0, and Brewton-Parker, 3-0.
Southeastern built a seven-point lead in the first at 21-14, but the Knights were able to tighten things up, getting within four due to some Fire attack errors. A kill by Jordyn Stiger on the 47th rally gave the Fire a 25-22 win.
Stiger led all players with 12 kills and hit .375 for the match.
After hitting .233 in the first, the Fire hit .154 in the second, but held Middle Georgia to just .049 and 10 errors for another 25-22 win.
In the third, the Fire totaled 14 kills and came away with a 25-18 win.
Emily Eurice had a double-double effort with 34 assists and 11 digs. She also added three kills and helped out on two blocks.
Fabianne Besosa led the back row with 22 digs. Maggie Seagren added 16.
Against Brewton Parker, the Fire had an early 6-2 lead but after the Barons battled back, neither team led by more than two the rest of the set. BPC held a 23-21 lead in the first, but a 4-0 run by the Fire gave it the set, getting a kill and a block from Jessica Hidden during the run.
The second set saw the Fire hit .289 as a team and cruise to a 25-15 win. Emily Boehlein led the charge, recording five of her team-best nine kills during the second. The senior hit .269 for the match and added 14 digs and two blocks on defense.
SEU closed out the day by taking the third set 25-19. Stiger added seven kills, and Hidden had six. Besosa had a match-best 29 digs, with Seagren adding 13.
Eurice recorded 25 assists and four digs.
The Fire will take on Life and University of the Cumberlands Saturday morning to complete the trip north.
