<p><em>Webber Athletics<br>Ricky Baptist, Director of Sports Information </em></p>

<p><strong>BABSON PARK, Fla.</strong> – Led by a career-high 31 points by <dfn>Jaylon Myles</dfn>, the Webber International University men&#8217;s basketball team had six players score in double figures as the Warriors improved to 3-0 in nonconference games at home with a high-scoring 91-86 victory over Florida National University on Saturday.</p>

<p>It was the highest point total of the season so far for Webber, which improved to 3-5 overall on the season and is now 3-1 at home. Florida National, meanwhile, fell to 2-6.</p>

<p>In addition to Myles, who shot 13-19 from the field overall and was 2-for-2 from 3-point range, <dfn>Eddie Davis</dfn> had 14 points and was 4-for-4 shooting from the free throw line, <dfn>Kris Goettert</dfn> had 12 points, <dfn>Rasheem Etienne</dfn> and <dfn>Terrance Lakes</dfn> both had 11, and <dfn>Loro Natana</dfn> added 10 points. Goettert also matched his career-high in rebounds with 16 his third double-double of the season while Davis added a career-best eight boards and Etienne had a new career-high in assists with seven.</p>

<p>It was a game that featured five lead changes and eight ties, including four ties in the second half. A layup by the Conquistadors made it 52-52 with 15 and a half minutes left to play, and then a jumper by FNU with 10 and a half minutes left tied it again at 63-63.</p>

<p>From there, the Warriors went up by as much as 11 points at 78-67 after a 10-0 run that was capped off with a put back layup by Natana with just under six minutes left to play. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Then, with Webber up nine at 84-75 following a free throw by Etienne with three and a half minutes left, FNU scored nine straight to tie it one last time, notching the score at 84-84 with 2:20 on the clock.</p>

<p>The Warriors answered with an and-one by Goettert to go ahead 87-84 with 2:03 remaining, and then after a jumper by Myles made it 89-86 with 1:21 left, neither team scored until the final seven seconds when two free throw by Davis salted it away.</p>

<p>Head Coach <dfn>Gabriel Rutledge</dfn> said, &#8220;I thought it was a great team win tonight. We had a lot of positive energy on both ends of the floor. I challenged <dfn>Jaylon Myles</dfn> after our previous two games, and he accepted the challenge, excelling both offensively and defensively. We still need to clean up our turnovers, but I was happy with the way we controlled the boards and dominated the paint. I was also pleased to see our defensive intensity remain high at the end of the game. Go Warriors.&#8221;</p>

<p>Next up, Webber will return to Sun Conference play to makeup a game that was previously postponed. The Warriors and the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University will tipoff starting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30, in Ave Maria, Florida. It will be Webber&#8217;s final game of the month.</p>

<p><strong>TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla.</strong> &#8211; The first game of the 2020-21 season for the Webber International University men&#8217;s basketball team resulted in a 92-70 loss for the Warriors on the road at Florida College.</p>

<p>In what was the season opener for both teams, Webber (1-0 overall) came away with points on each of its first nine possessions of the game, starting with a 3-pointer by <dfn>Kris Goettert</dfn> on the very first possession of the season. The Warriors would then go on to sink six of their first seven shot attempts.</p>

<p>Unfortunately from there, Webber began to get cold from the field and started turning the ball over in bulk while Florida College (1-0) got hot, particularly from 3-point range.</p>

<p>After a free throw by <dfn>Eddie Davis</dfn> put the Warriors ahead 18-14 just over five minutes into the game, that was as good as it would get for the visiting team as Webber proceeded to turn the ball over on six of its next seven possessions while Florida College scored seven straight to kick off a big 19-5 run featuring three 3-pointers to make it a 10-point Falcons&#8217; lead at 33-23 halfway through the first period.</p>

<p>Then, after a midrange jumper by <dfn>Jaylon Myles</dfn> made it 33-25, the Falcons responded to go up by 16 at 41-25 after two more 3-ponters. In all, it was a 6-for-11 start from 3-point range for Florida College.</p>

<p>Three straight baskets for Webber got it back down to 10 at 41-31 with around 2:30 left before halftime, but the Falcons hit their seventh three of the opening half to lead it by 15 at 46-31 at the intermission.</p>

<p>In the second half, Webber spent most of its time down by 20-plus points after Florida College scored six straight to open up the half while Webber started the period 2-for-10 from the field and found itself behind 62-35 with 15 minutes left to play.</p>

<p>In the end, Florida College scored 46 points in both halves and had seven 3-pointers in both periods while finishing at exactly 50 percent shooting for the game.</p>

<p>For Webber, Myles finished with 16 points, Goettert had 13, and Davis and <dfn>George Davey</dfn> both had 10. <dfn>Terrance Lakes</dfn> and <dfn>Rasheem Etienne</dfn> both added eight points, <dfn>Herman Robinson</dfn> added his second career 3-pointer, and <dfn>Justin Boyd</dfn> had a game-high nine rebounds.</p>

<p>Next up for Webber will be two games in back-to-back days in the state of Georgia as the Warriors play at Brewton-Parker College at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 30, followed by a 4 p.m. tipoff at Point University on Saturday, October 31.</p>
